Geordie Holibar on acting
The 21st Narcissus takes the audience on a journey through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and the lives we lead online. At the centre of it all is Kyle, played by Geordie Holibar, who shows us how the connection we seek online, has the power to transform the way we see ourselves. Geordie took a break from rehearsal to answer a few questions about Kyle's online odyssey as well as his own social media misadventures.
When did you decide you wanted to be an actor?
I remember being about 8 and turning to my mum and telling her I wanted to be an actor. 8 year old me had no idea what he was getting himself into and here I am.
How are you like Kyle, your character?
Well we've both created angsty blogs, except Kyle got attention for his teen-angst, where as mine went unnoticed by the rest of the internet.
What is your own personal attitude towards and experience of social media and how did that inform your portrayal of Kyle?
I don't think my social media experience is anything but stock standard. But theres something fascinating about internet fame and how that crosses over to the real world. My sister intends to marry Hannah Hart, a famous Youtuber. This is relevant.
Share your process and approach to the script as an actor.
I think I'm still trying to figure out what works for me. I mean I mostly just throw some objectives at each scene and occasional I'll draw a big line across the page because I think the energy or something changed enough to deserve a big line.
What has the rehearsal process been like?
The process was vaguely #devisedtheatre (I think) which was really cool, i've never been a part of that kind of process and it was awesome to see Murdoch's great offers go from great to fabulous. Its been fab working with other actors around my age, and even making friends... (not you Natasha).
